It’s an easy day on the bike to start the week with. After breakfast, we climb to Teguise, a colonial town and the island’s former capital. We descend to Famara beach in a sandy desert landscape and swim in the ocean. After lunch, the route takes us across the unique volcanic landscape of Timanfaya and La Geria´s traditional vineyards. A well-deserved stop in a charming winery for a wine tasting and it’s all downhill to the hotel in Playa Blanca.

After the half-an-hour ferry to Fuerteventura, we start a long day in the saddle, but trade winds will hopefully help us and climbings are smooth. It’s a ride on scenic roads across a rocky desert and sand dunes . After lunch in the colonial town Betancuria, we descend to the sandy beach of La Pared and reach our hotel in Playa Jandia for dinner.

A 2-hour ferry and we are on our third island: Gran Canaria. A quick visit to the old colonial streets of Las Palmas and we climb to the highest peak of the island, Pico de las Nieves at 2000m. As we gain altitude the arid landscape turns into a lush pine wood, once above the clouds the view opens up to the magnificent “sacred mountains” of Gran Canaria, declared UNESCO world heritage. Our hotel is right there!

Our ride today starts with a descent to the harbour crossing the Tamadaba pine forest. A quick ferry and we are in Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife. Soon we are back in the mountains in Anaga’s rugged peaks on beautiful switchbacks. A landscape made of cactus quickly turns into a lush green laurel forest usually shrouded in mist that well deserves the name of “enchanted forest”. We finally reach our hotel in La Laguna, a 15th-century colonial town declared UNESCO world heritage.

It’s a long climb to Mount Teide, a massive volcano rising at 3700 meters above the ocean. The climb mainly goes on a quiet road in the pine forest to reach the moon-like volcanic landscape of Cañadas above 2000 meters, another UNESCO world heritage site. The route quickly descent to the beaches of Los Cristianos. It was a long day but we made it to the hotel.

This small island is a proper road bike paradise with plenty of quiet roads with perfect tarmac winding up and down massive ravines in an ever-changing landscape with palm trees, cacti and the lush green misty forest of Garajonay, a UNESCO world heritage. We can split the group and take a shortcut to reduce the loop at 70km and 2300m+, we will meet later at the hotel.
