Support van // Loaded with snacks, drinks, and key bike tools and spares. It will take care of a healthy picnic lunch, assist with standard mechanicals, and transfer luggage to the next accommodation.

Support crew // Two experienced cyclists will offer practical riding advice and assist with any common mechanical issues along the route.

Roadbook and live tracking // Participants receive detailed route files and comprehensive information about the course, preparation, and recommended gear. The support crew will help set up the route on your GPS device. Real-time tracking ensures every rider can follow the route safely and enjoy the freedom to ride at their own pace.

Please note // A supported route is not a guided route. While a tour leader will ride with participants to assist in case of mechanical issues or emergencies, riders are fully responsible for respecting local laws and natural areas. Participants must be self-sufficient in following the route, carry all mandatory equipment, and commit to the day-by-day itinerary.

Please be aware that the support van is not always ready or available, and it is not intended to carry participants as passengers. All riders must accept and sign our rider agreement before taking part in the route.

Advanced route // For cyclists who ride regularly and want back-to-back challenging days with continuous climbs and long descents. Rides may start before sunrise or finish after sunset. Cold weather, rain, or strong winds may make the route even more demanding. Check the day-by-day itinerary for daily distance and elevation details.

Ride at your pace // Expect a relaxed pace of around 15 km/h with plenty of stops for coffee, resupply, and regrouping. You are always free to ride at your own pace — faster or slower. We will ensure you have the correct route loaded on your GPS, and keep an eye on your real-time location

Bike setup // Bring your trusted gravel or mountain bike. You will need a low gear ratio (around 0.8), at least 1.5 litres of water capacity, and a minimum tyre width of 45 mm — a tubeless setup is recommended.

We encourage riding your own bike, but rental options can be arranged if needed.

Mandatory equipment // Every participant must take part in the route with the following equipment. Each day, we’ll review the route and weather forecast to decide what gear and clothing to carry on the bike.

Tools and Spares // multi-tool, inner tube, tubeless repair kit, hand pump, chain link.

Electronics // GPS device, front light (min 600lm), rear light, power bank and charging cables.

Clothing // rain jacket, mid layer, down jacket, waterproof gloves and shoe covers.

Bags // Saddle or frame bag of around 4 L to store essential equipment and snacks.

Tracks are available to anyone wanting to ride the route, even outside of official events — you can download the GPX files from RideWithGPS by clicking on the map above. The tracks, recommendations, and information provided here are only a planning resource, a starting point to help you prepare your trip with due diligence and common sense. We will not provide any further information or assistance beyond what is already included here.

Ride at your own risk and responsibility // Always check the weather forecast and local alerts. Be sure to respect natural park rules, traffic laws, road closures, and private land restrictions. We are in no way liable for personal injury, damage to personal property, or any other incident that might occur while cycling or following this route.

Planning and scouting a cycling route requires significant effort, involving many hours of investigation, long days on the trails, and quite a few pointless hike-a-bikes. If you ride the route or part of it, please help us keep it updated by sending feedback on trail conditions or any road closures.

If you use the route for commercial purposes or to market products, please credit our project (and yes, this goes for you, dear people at Lapierre)

It’s an easy day on the bike to start the week. After breakfast, we climb to Teguise, a colonial town and the island’s former capital. From there, we descend to Famara Beach through a sandy desert landscape and may enjoy a swim in the ocean.

After lunch, the route crosses the El Jable desert, the striking volcanic scenery of Timanfaya, and the traditional vineyards of La Geria. We’ll stop at a winery for a well-deserved tasting before the final downhill ride to the hotel in Playa Blanca.

After the half-hour ferry to Fuerteventura, we begin a long day in the saddle — the climbs are gentle, and the trade winds will hopefully be on our side. The route first follows scenic gravel roads along wild beaches.

After lunch in the old colonial town of Betancuria, we continue through a rocky desert landscape and finish the day at the hotel, likely arriving around sunset.

4☆ mountain hotel

A two-hour ferry takes us to the third island — Gran Canaria. After a quick visit to the old colonial streets of Las Palmas, we begin the climb to the island’s highest peak, Pico de las Nieves (2,000 m). As we gain altitude, the arid landscape gradually gives way to lush pine forests, and once above the clouds, the view opens up to the magnificent “Sacred Mountains” of Gran Canaria, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our hotel is right there!

Our ride begins with a long descent through the endless switchbacks of Tirma in the Tamadaba pine forest, reaching the harbour by midday to take the two-hour ferry to Tenerife. Soon after arrival, we’re back in the mountains, climbing the rugged peaks of Anaga on beautiful winding roads.

The landscape of cactus and dry slopes gradually transforms into a lush green laurel forest, often shrouded in mist — an atmosphere that truly earns its name, the “Enchanted Forest.” We end the day in La Laguna, a 15th-century colonial town and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Santiago del Teide
Caserio Los Partidos
Mountain Hut

It’s a long climb to Mount Teide, a massive volcano rising 3,700 meters above the ocean. The ascent follows mostly hard-packed double tracks and quiet forest roads, leading to a moon-like volcanic landscape above 2,000 meters. The route then descends along endless gravel roads to reach a cozy mountain hut on the slopes of the volcano.

Breakfast at the hotel

We can enjoy a short morning ride or simply relax at the mountain hut. Then it’s time to pack our bikes and say goodbye. We’ll arrange your transfer to Tenerife South Airport, about an hour’s drive away.

Crew

Daniela
Kirchner

Daniela likes the most adventurous and challenging part of cycling, she won extreme ultra-cycling races and explored remote countries on her bike. She likes to ride far away from her comfort zone, camp out in pristine nature and get in touch with local communities, always with an easy-going attitude and open-minded approach.

Matteo
Minelli

Like everybody else, Matteo learned to ride a bike as a kid, and never quit. After many years and countless miles, he is still amazed by the gyroscopic balance given by the spinning wheels, the instant pleasure of moving forward pushing on the pedals, the endless freedom of climbing mountains and crossing landscapes.
